First staged in 1986, the festival became the third in the Spoleto Festival series – joining Spoleto, Italy, and Charleston, United States. The name was changed in 1990 to the Melbourne International Festival of the Arts.

GMC Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix
See the world's best riders in three Grand Prix classes compete in this three-day event on Phillip Island.
The Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix will have to be moved forward from October to March for the 2012 season or Phillip Island will risk losing a round of the MotoGP World Championship.
Dorna boss Carmelo Ezpeleta has threatened to axe the event unless the Australian Grand Prix Corporation moves the event to the beginning of the season.

The Melbourne International Comedy Festival (MICF) is the third-largest international comedy festival in the world and the largest cultural event in Australia.
Established in 1987, it takes place annually in Melbourne over four weeks in April typically opening on or around April Fool's Day (1 April). The Melbourne Town Hall has served as the festival hub since the early 1990s, but performances are held in venues throughout the city.

The fun and excitement of steeplechasing comes to the seaside town of Warrnambool during Australia's premier regional racing carnival.
The Warrnambool May Racing Carnival is acknowledged as Australia's premier regional racing Carnival. The annual three day event attracts around 35,000 patrons from local, national and international markets.
The highlight of the Carnival is the 'Dominant' Grand Annual Steeplechase, raced over 5500 metres and consisting of 33 jumps. The Annual is the longest thoroughbred race in Australia and has the most jumps of any horse race worldwide.
